trying to jailbreak 3gs running 3.0 with redsn0w but having trouble!

would like a few pointers please!

as title trying to jailbreak then unlock 3gs running 3.0

following a guide on here, i am falling at one of the first hurdles.

holding shift and clicking restore, then selecting the 3.0 ipsw file, it doesnt go through when it says verifying with apple.

instead it gives me an error message saying it is unable to.

anybody got any ideas?

new to all this so looking for help!

also, read about pwnage tool that creates an ipsw file? would that work?

The reason is that Apple isn't signing that version number anymore.

You should just skip that step in the process and continue, it won't make a difference.

i have tried this but all the info is still the same on the iphone and doesnt appear to have been jailbroken.

plus when i try ultrasn0w to use it on o2 (uk carrier) comes up with no service.

Is there an app called Cydia on your springboard? If so, you are jailbroken. If you can even install ultrasn0w, that should indicate a successful jailbreak.

yeah cydia is there and installed ultrasn0w but still cannot get service!!

What does your baseband version say? It's listed under Settings > About > Modem firmware or something.

It'll read either 04.xx.xx or 05.xx.xx

edit: by the way, you are indeed jailbroken, it's the unlock currently not working.

Odd. ultrasn0w should work. I've never actually unlocked myself so maybe someone else could chime in here.

try downloading the 3gS 3.0.1 ipsw file to restore with then use the 3.0 ipsw file in redsn0w

will i still be able to unlock my iphone if using 3.0.1, will it not change the baseband where i cant unlock it?

You can't use the 3.0.1 firmware.
