IPSW file not shown
I have an Iphone 1st gen, purchased of ebay. The problem right now is i cant get the phone slider to unlock the phone.
That's that...so right now I downloaded redsnow onto my windows pc (vista), I downloaded the 3.0 firmware. According to the instructions, I need to browse to the ipsw file. That's the problem, there isnt one...see attached..

I see 2 of them in the window on the left. They are the restore files. Shows them as .zip or .rar files. you need to change the file extension from .zip to .ipsw

XP or Vista. you need to open "My Computer"
XP - go to the top menu and select options > Folder Options
Vista - Top left button that says Organize > Folder and Search Options
In that window you need to click the " VIEW " tab on top.
NEED TO SELECT “SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS "
Then unclick the option to " hide protected operating system files "
Once that's done click "apply" then ok and exit out of the window.

I just did that, now should I change the folder extension to ipsw? Or associate the file with itunes?

i'm def. missing a step. When I change the zip file (right-click>properties>) this is the part im not folowing..by changeing the file name so, ipsw is at the end won't fix it. so, I need to change the type of file extension from .rar to ipsw. Thats where i'm getrting lost, b/c there isnt a command which will allow me to do this...

right clicking should give an option to rename, no need to right click and go to properties.

you should be done.
You'll have to go to Cydia and add the repo. repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ to get the unlock you'll need when it finished.Last edited by blkcadi; 09-21-2009 at 10:03 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
