Planning to use redsn0w tonight

Any useful tips would be appreciated!

i have an iPhone 3G on 2.2OS j/b with pwntool and i suppose i need to restore update to 3.0 then run redsn0w and follow it accordingly anything im missing??

Yup, you got it. redsn0w is the deal for 3g. ultrasn0w if your going to unlock.

one question you might know the answer it says to download the firmware that was on a link on redsn0w section so i did that then it mentions using your firmware is it that downloaded from them or the one that itunes gives the phone when it updates??

For me, I just updated in iTunes to 3.0 then turned phone off and ran redsn0w following the prompts, quite simple really. Read through the pages, it's explains it self.

OK just in case anyone else reads this post thought i would put a play by play here....

( these are just the steps i did with my ocd kicking in lol )

Backed up the iPhone ( jailbroken on 2.2 Pwn'd )
I had catagories installed via Cydia i took everything out of them and then backed up again..

Disconnected, then reconnected

Unsynced music and apps - found this to help the process with own tool from the last time back on 2.0 JB

Unplugged reconnected

Restore and allow upgrade to 3.0 - 3.0 DL was fast restore in progess now! wait for it...wait for it lol

Will post again with the next few steps!

I wouldn't restore from the backup if I were you.
Most problems arise from using the backups of 2.X

oopsie lol

Glad to see i have someone looking at this lol and im spinning in my chair too haha

Well the update and restore to 3.0 went fast and flawless... all i did was hit restore didnt have to to a force reboot or anything so that was nice!

did notice that i used Erica in Cydia and it still works and i had a blue battery icon it still works but going to re boot and see what happens.....

Erica still work battery icon is now gone but no worries ...

going to being redsn0w now!

Will keep you posted!

OK well this was amazingly smooth so far!

unzipped redsn0w placed it and the firmware on the desktop...

Ran redsn0w got it ready by following instructions on this post

Then plugged in turned off the phone followed the promts and BAM like 10 min maybe at best and im rebooted and ready to see what i got!

And BINGO!! tried txt message works fine...made a call no problem! wireless it all works fine! Cydia is there now as well..

Going to see if Cydia backup worked as it claimed lol but WOW this was easy to do i say if you are going to JB your 3G on 3.0 this is the way to do it!!

ok i got one for ya!

So now that im all good..i want to reinstall my winterboard stuff i made... so i go to ssh and root and alpine dont work.... any idea what the user and pass is for 3.0 ?? i would think it would be the same since its a 3G but it hasnt worked with three attempts... any idea??

it's still root and alpine, working fine for me.
Are you trying to SSH through USB or wifi?
It doesn't work off through USB anymore.

ok dont tell nobody but......

So i might of been drinking while working on the phone , had a house full and wasnt thinking and i forgot to reinstall open ssh from cydia so umm yea now its all good haha
