Saving contacts before jailbreak

All the posts I see about jailbreaking with redsn0w mention to set up a new phone after you restore in iTunes, and not from your backup, especially if you had a jailbreaked phone before.

If I do this Ill lose all my contacts right? Well, is the file structure the same in 3.0 as it is in 2.2 bc I know where the contacts file is when I SSH into the phone, so if I save that file and then just put it pack on after the jailbreak would I be fine?

No. Your contacts will be backed up. Only thing you'll lose is your SMS mesages and call history. Back up your contacts to Gmail or Yahoo, so even when you screw your PC up you can still restore them

The SMS and call history I could do without, I just really dont want to lose my contacts. I didnt know you caould sync your contacts with yahoo. How do you do that?

It should sync back on automatically, but i have mine saved in my Address Book on my mac.

Just sync your contacts to your address book.
Then afterward it would sync back just like your music and apps.

You can use outlook express to back up contacts and messages.
I have done this but it was not the easiest thing to do.
You need to go to info in your iPhone settings in iTunes, select where you want to back it up to in outlook or yahoo, windows or google, then sync your phone and job done.

I am about to jailbreak my iphone - if I use iTunes to back up my contacts to outlook how do I recover back the contacts to my iphone after the jailbreak is applied without syncing with iTunes again? An iTunes sync will remove the jailbreak correct?

No sync won't remove your JB. and you can also just use iCloud to back up your contacts.

But if you really are worried then just write them down man. Its not hard.

I am sure there is an app on cydia that saves contacts though.. have you looked?

Thanks for your answer. My idea is to back up the contacts before I jailbreak. As a result, i cannot use a cydia app to back them up. I have close to three hundred contacts and it would take a considerable amount of time to write them down lol. I just want to be sure my contacts are backed up before I have to see my iphone address book emptied out due to jailbreak.
