Unable to switch off Edge Data
I have a iphone 2g restored to 3.0 and jailbroken with redsno0w 0.71.
I just noticed that I am unable to disable the edge data.
I tried switching OFF "Data Roaming" in the Settings->General->Network
I also tried toggling the Edge icon in SBSettings.
Neither seems to work on my phone.
SBSettings reports a Edge data IP address that is active even when Wifi is active and I tested the IP address from my PC and it is active! I was able to SSH into the phone on my Edge data address.
I do not want to run up data charges.
Can anyone advise me on someway to disable edge data on the OS 3.0
Thanks

Thanks for the link to the article.
That helped.
What I did was to install an app called "APN Editing" in Cydia.
After installing this app I got a new setting under Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network
This allowed me to intentionally misspell my Cellular data provider's name.
In my case it was airtelgprs.com I just changed it to airtelgprs.com1 and then used the SBSettings Edge toggle to toggle the edge data.
After doing that i no longer get an Edge Data IP address.
Whenever I want to enable Edge I will need to reverse the process.
It would be nice for the makers of the Edge toggle to automate this process by appending some bogus string like #disabled to the APN name and then removing it automatically when toggled.

Nice going! It would be sweet to have the EDGE toggle fixed.

interesting thing. on my 2G iphone it reads phone for APN with blank values for username and password for cellular data.. as for visual voicemail it has APN acds.voicemail and blanks for username and password. is that default for AT&T users?

If APN Editing of Cydia fails you read my post here:

The easiest is to install Boss Prefs and the toggle is there. No more worrying or trying to put the wrong apn. You have a lot of toggles included for wifi, bluetooth and more along with the edge toggle.

For some people the toggles from BossPrefs/sbsettings doesn’t work on FW 3.0….
It’s rumoured that the push service is playing a part in this mean behaviour of
the two apps…

I have apps that use the push for RTM and Cylay and the toggles work just fine. I have a 3G but it also works on my 2G iphone.
