yea, cause you'll have partial installation files on it if you don't restore it every time. Which could cause the repetitive problem.

Man, I've had to restore 8 times in a row now ... I've been trying and trying .. but it keeps freezing on where it says "Waiting for iPhone to reboot"
It just never reboots ... and stays w/ a black screen.
Oh well .. I enjoyed my phone more with it Jailbreak'd ... but I guess I'll upgrade to the 3GS eventually.

All my redsn0w does is say its rebooting a few time, the screen will flash, but none of the jailbreak files are being downloaded. Help?

"
As previously mentioned please understand that redsn0w ONLY jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and DOES NOT unlock "
Is this a typo?

Depends on what operating system you are using.
In XP and Vista Ultimate/Business, the easiest way I know of is to pull up My Documents/Documents and up at the top, click Tools then Folder Options. Once in there, hit the "View" tab, then look for "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" and un-check that. After that, right click the update file, click Rename and then delete the .zip at the end. Might have to add .ipsw to the end, don't know.
And as for Vista Home, its a little different. You will have to go to Control panel, then Switch to Classic View from the Left and click Folder Options there. The rest is the same.
P.S. Worked for me the first time around. Just hope it does better than pwnage. Everytime I used that and try to install a program on Cydia, it froze my iphone into a constant restart phase

06-22-2009, 08:38 AM #53wtf - i thought redsnow will jailbreak a 3g but just want unlock it? confusing ****As previously mentioned please understand that redsn0w ONLY jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and DOES NOT unlock the iPhone 3G
redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation).

What's confusing about that? by you saying want i assumed you meant WONT. If that's the case what's confusing you? Jailbraking and UNLOCKING are 2 DIFFERENT things!
Jailbreaking = Been able to installed 3rd party applications which are not purchased or downloaded via the Apple's App Store.
Unlocking = Been able to use another GSM network by inserting another cell phone carrier's SIM Card other than AT&TLast edited by williamjv; 06-22-2009 at 09:00 AM. Reason: info

I jailbroke the phone fine, but I cannot get cydia to work. I can open it fine, but when it says that it needs an essential upgrade. I tried both essential and complete upgrades, but each time it says "Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on essential". Can someone please help?

GODS. You are. My carrier wanted an extra 10 euros per month to use tethering! I have PDANet, so WTF!
DEV Team, may your communications be 3G, or higher! Blessed are those that cower in your shadow! (OK, so I've also drunk too much, but if a drunken sod can jailbreak his phone, you guys make life so much easier!).
Cydia seems a bit iffy. Won't load, as expected, but ignoring that, searhcing still workes, and I can download apps).
