Default "redsn0w.exe has stopped working" during jailbreak :@
Hey guys, I was looking on the dev-team site, and there was an update to redsn0w, which allows you to jailbreak with the iPhone 3G with 3.0.

So all was good, went through with it and it was going well, but THEN!!

suddenly an error occured, "redsn0w.exe has stopped responding! Windows will close the program" etc

well not panicing, its still in the same state, and on the iPhone it still says Downloading Jailbreak Data....

My question is, do i unplug it and/or get out of redsn0w (which is my only option), or what do you's think. Im hoping i havent just stuffed my iPhone

    Thanks for your help!

okay it just turned off (my iPhone), n then thought well nothing else to do than turn it back on again, n it turned on like normal :S. Sorry guys, But i would still like to know why this has happened? does anyone have a fix?
    i am using windows vista
Alright guys all that above was from 10 mins ago

I was stupid enough to try it again. And this time it worked
the only thing i did, was re-apply the compatibility settings to Windows XP again, and then reopened redsn0w.
That wasnt a fix, cos i didnt really do anything. But second time was lucky .

I also had this problem- i have windows vista and in the middle of redsn0w updating the ramdisk, an error message comes up that says windows must close redsn0w. i dont know how to change the program settings to XP like mentioned above and I am already on an administrator acct on my computer... HELP!

edit: I changed the compatibility settings to Win95 and then ran as an admin and it worked perfectly.

I still get the same problem even without installing icy. Yet after the second or third time of trying to jailbreak, it worked

go to the pwnage folder that redsn0w tells you to make, right click on redsn0w.exe and select properties. in the compatibility tab, check the box that says run in compatibility mode and select an operating system(Win95 worked for me but you may have to try a couple to find one that works.) after that, right click on redsn0w.exe again and select run as admin- then it should work.

I had the same problem on Vista and on XP I couldn't get passed Waiting for Reboot...

MY FIX: Shift+Restore to 3.0 using iTunes to the 3.0 IPSW file... this will re-lock your iPhone and render it useless again, however redsn0w then worked for me and unlocked on Vista after I did this

When i first jailbroke it worked the first time then had to reboot and didn't work there after, i tried redsnow again again and again with no luck, (Running Windows Vista SP1 with adjusted compatibility to Windows XP SP2 for Redsnow) never worked. Finally got a hold of a XP worked fine from there on after. Any ideas? Most of my problem is I can't extract redsn0w Correctly on Vista, anyideas ? Error comes up file name as folder name so it doesn't put the folders on the computer.

You can find a user guide for how to jailbreak using redsn0w here. See my previous post for redsn0w stopping in the middle of jailbreak(changing compatibility, etc)

If you get stuck on the first :waiting for reboot", kill the process, unplug your phone, use a different usb port if available, plug it back in, and run again. If you get stuck on the second (like me :P), after you follow the steps for DFU, keep holding the home button. Instead of staying black, your screen should flash white, and get through the process. You can let go at "Uploading ramdisk"

Running as Admin and on XP sp2 compatibility didn't help me. However, not including Icy (leaving it unchecked) worked for me. You can always install Icy later through Cydia and so no biggie there. So, another count for a successful install w/o Icy.

It is crashing on me at the waiting for reboot step. It does this with Vista SP2 and on my laptop XP SP2.

I have restored my phone to factory settings and still no luck. Tried running in administrator mode. No luck.

    Any ideas?

Well I figured it out. I downloaded redsn0w from another source and it worked.

When I tried to Jailbreak iphone 3G with redsn0w, its stops responding. I tried in 3-4 computers, but same result. I even tried pwnage tool for mac on MacBook Pro, but same result. Ultimately I am not able to Jailbreak my iphone & its in Restore state. Its asking for simcard & no other commands are working. What to do ? Any clue. ?

    Smile check firmware version
check if you're using the correct firmware.

I had exactly the same problem when I was trying to use the 3GS ipfw on my 3G (duh). Check the correct firmwares here:

Restart the redsn0w should solved the issue "redsn0w.exe stopped working".
