05-13-2012, 09:33 AM #1Can't get iTouch to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1
I backed up and restored my iTouch that was previously jailbroken at 4.2.1. A few sources told me that you cannot upgrade a jailbroken device to another iOS, and that I had to restore it, upgrade it manually, and jailbreak it from there. I tried pretty much every method of upgrading out there, but I kept getting error 21, and error 3194 when I'd use the recovery mode approach. What am I doing wrong?

You can only update to 5.0.1 if you have the SHSH blobs saved for it as apple isn't signing that firmware anymore

That's where you click "Save SHSH", right? I did that when I started up TinyUmbrella. Pardon my illiteracy, I'm *really* rusty at this...

Yes, it should he showed blobs for certain firmwares...which were they?

It has every firmware listed for my iDevice from 3.1.2 to 5.1. Would it be easier to update to 5.1 and downgrade to 5.0.1, or is that currently impossible?

It's not impossible but it requires more steps. Do this:
In Redsn0w, click "extras", then click "SHSH", then click "stitch".
Click the ipsw button and point to the custom firmware you made.
Under "Blobs", click the 'Local" button and point it to your 5.0.1 SHSH (should be in "user/shsh")
Then enter pwned DFU with redsn0w and restore to the custom stitched firmware it just made.

I tried it a hundred times, but every time I try to load the 5.0.1 into "Local", I kept getting an error that said "The blobs could not be verified".

Read this fix on another site:
1) Close Redsn0w.
2) Open folder CProgram Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support.
3) Copy all files.
4) Paste all files to CUsers\NAME….\AppData\Roaming\redsn0w.
