Since using pwnage tool to jailbreak to 4.3.3 my phone will not update to ios 5 cant understand why has anybody got any ideas .

Need more info. What phone, what firmware you trying to go to, and what error. If you are trying to go to 5.0 then you can't apple stopped signing it. Only way to get to iOS 5 now is to go 5.0.1

its a iPhone 4 on 4.3.3 done with pwnage, but since i used this when i try to go to update to 5.0.1 iTunes says device not eligible for this update

Did try to update the phone while it was in DFU mode?
Yes it was dfu version was the latest of itunes at a loss now unless, just updated itunes tried again still saying the same...

Try a different usb port, and a cable
Yes give it a go but i used a custom ipsw, cause i used pawnage 4.3.3
