iphone 3gs 4.2.1 stuck black screen

My bought a 3gs off my friend. He said he hadn't updated it ro the newest version so I didn't check. I got the newest Pwnage tool from the dev team website. I made a custom IPSW. Then when I went to custom update and Itunes and itunes said it wasn't eligible for this update.

So I searched some more and found Tiny Umbrella. Tiny Umbrella didn't recognize the iPhone. When I press "fix recovery" it says the device model is INVALID. I tried starting the TSS server. It worked and iTunes saw that the iphone was in recovery mode. It started to restore from custom IPSW but ended prematurely giving me ERROR 1600. Sometimes two iphones show up in iTunes.

So then I tried Greenposion in Windows 7. Since it was already in DFU mode it just started jailbraking. It said it was finished, but it still just showed a black screen. Then it has a black screen with white letters:

It still shows up in iTunes.

If I type exit recovery in TinyUmbrella, and it goes back to the black screen.

I have no idea what to do now. Any help would be great. Thanks

Rerun greenpois0n BUT continue holding the Home button until more text starts to scroll. Let us know if that works

now when the text scrolls it says: Unable to mount user filesystem!

That's normal!!! I just redid my wifes phone last night and it showed the same thing. Keep it plugged in and let it sit for a while and it'll finish.

I waited a while and then the text goes away and black lines go across the screen like it is frozen or something. It's like a grayish black with random lines of dark black going through it. I wait and wait and nothing happens. If I unplug it and wait for the battery to die then when I plug it in I still get a black screen. If I plug it into another computer, nothing happens. I run tinyumbrella to 'fix recovery' and it puts it back in dfu mode. I've tried greenpoison several times now.

I wish there was some way to get it back to any screen, even if it's just the 'plug into itunes' screen.

Do u need an unlock? 4.3.1 is untethered now if you wanna update to that!!!
