Default Fail pwnage 4.2.1 on new 3GS

I am pulling my hair out!! Have done PWNAGE 4.2.1 no problem with my old 3G. Now I am trying to do it for my son’s new 3GS that is locked on Orange and has the standard 4.2.1, so it is the first time it is (trying to be) jailbroken (my 3G was already JB on 4.0). When I get to the point of restoring the custom firmware, I get a “Verifying the Iphone Restore with Apple” message, that obviously fails. I have never seen this step before, how do I get around it? Could it be something to do with the dreaded new bootrom?

    Many thanks

PwnageTools version 4.2 is able to jailbreak the 3GS new and old bootroms for iOS 4.2.1. So, that is not the problem.

Here's a few things to check:

    1. You can not restore your custom firmware for your iPhone 3GS, unless you backed up your SHSH blobs for 4.2.1 in Cydia.

If you have backed up your SHSH blobs for 4.2.1 in Cydia, then:

    a) Run TinyUmbrella and click "Save SHSH". This will retrieve all your SHSH blobs from Cydia.

    b) From TinyUmbrella, click "Start TTS Server"

    c) Launch iTunes and restore your custom firmware.

    2) Did you download the correct 4.2.1 IPSW for your 3GS from Apple to create your custom firmware. Make sure you downloaded iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw

Put your phone in pwned DFU mode with either pwnagetool or redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 before restoring to the custom firmware.

Like reddawg said, you'll need SHSHs to restore to 4.2.1

    HELP!
Ran Tinyumbrella on OSX last night, saving all blobs I could for all phones in the house. That is all I did.
One hour later I tried to sync my iPhone4 with Itunes but that failed, with Itunes showing me the beachball and the phone not going into sync mode. When I unplug the phone iTunes wakes up and tells me it could not recognised the phone.
Could TinyUmbrellla have messed up something, or me using TU? How do I fix this?
    Thanks!
