is it true that snowbreeze is the alternative for pwnage since im using windows? if it really is..

then i downloaded everything... when i choose the original ipsw file... these are the options available... (screenshot)

so if i choose to create custom ipsw which only preserves the baseband.. does not jailbreak nor unlock.. is that fine? cause my idea is.. create a custom firmware that preserve the baseband using snowbreeze... use official sim to activate and finally jailbreak using greenpoison and unlock using ultrasnow.. will this steps going to work? please help..

my phone is 3gs running 3.1.3 bb 5.12.01

If you read the description when hovering over "baseband preservation mode" it does state that "all other modes still DO preserve the baseband". Therefore if you use sn0wbreeze normally, then you will still be able to unlock...

Just to get terms straight. When you create a custom firmware you are jailbreaking. The jailbreak is needed to preserve the baseband on restore. I recently upgraded my 3GS from 3.1.2/05.11.07 to 4.1/05.11.07 using sn0wbreeze. You will be fine. I'm on AT&T like you so I did not hacktivate.
Just make the custom firmware it will not upgrade your baseband. I ran tiny umbrella to get shsh blobs off my computer. Restore to your iPhone. Let phone activate on AT&T. Re-sync apps, data, movies, music.
Dime people say they even restore from back up.

Do i need tinyumbrella if im about to update to 4.2.1?.. Teach me step-by-step coz this is the first tym im uSing custom firmware

Step 1 download TinyUmbrella.

Step 2 Run and save your ShSh files to your computer. You don't have to be jailbroken to do this.

Step 3 download sn0wbreeze and make custom firmware. *Make sure you uncheck activate.

Step 4 run TinyUmbrella and click Start TSS Server

*Step 5 open iTunes hold shift key and click restore. Make sure you hold shift key. Navigate to the custom firmware. (Sn0wbreeze will put it on desktop by default.) Select custom firmware and Ok. Let iTunes do it's thing.

Step 6 once restored, since you are on AT&T it should activate automatically.

Step 7 sync to iTunes to restore apps, and other content

Step 8 enjoy.

If you get error messages. Try to change USB ports or rebooting computer. Google the error message there is usually a fix out there by the pioneers who adapt first.

Will give it a try... but before that.. how to backup pictures/videos/messages and contacts? and im also using application that provides folder so i can store private things.. will that be automatically backed-up in itunes? i know that we can copy/paste pics/vids... how to restore them..

oh the ShSh Blobs.. i already had it saved on my PC... so i still need the original 4.2.1 firmware right?

and from the screenshot:

a) snowbreeze2: untick activate, how about the custom logo? and make ipsw-nor only? and the partition?
b) snowbreeze3: can i just leave this blank?

should i update my itunes before doing this.. im still on itunes 9... and finally... im on 3 network.. the official sim for my iphone... so ure suggesting me to just put the official sim inside so it can smooth the later process? To backup just connect to iTunes for apps, and stuff like that.
For pictures and videos taken with iPhone, there should be an app in windows that will import them to your picture folder for you. I'm not at my computer right now to see what it is.
You should get a popup when you connect your phone asking to import photos. That should work.*

To restore pics you have to have iTunes sync with a folder on your computer and the pictures will sync back to your phone.

To sync videos taken on the iPhone, you will have to import them into iTunes and sync them with movies. They show up in iPod app. I know, that stinks but that is how apple has it set up.

I can't say about the private folder thing. If it is an AppStore app it should be backed up by iTunes.

Yes you will need the original firmware so the custom version can be made.

Yes untick activate
For custom logo I never use this. Some people have problems some done don't. *Some people are having issues with video logo. Dont worry about nor only.

For partition you can set it to what ever you want, but remember it will take away from storage for other stuff. I usually leave it alone or Goto 1024.
The Cydia apps are so small now days that a larger partition is not really necessary.*

Yes you will need to update your iTunes first for this to work.

Also sorry I thought you were in states *the phone should activate with your 3 sim since it is the official carrier. Just leave it in during the process no need to take it out.

Once it is complete, you should be able to connect to iTunes and restore from backup to get apps and saved data back. Except for pictures and movies taken on iPhone.

Yeah untick custom logo. I never have good things happen when I do it but others have good experiences with custom logos. I don't know why. But for the 4.2.1 jailbreak I have been seeing threads asking how to remove it so maybe people are having problems.

If you screw up when restoring to the custom firmware, go to www.ih8snow.com and download iREB. Run it to go through the restore process again. There is also a fix in iREB if you get into a recovery mode loop.

Is your jaibreak tethered or untethered? I thought the new PT is the only way to have 4.2.1 untethered?
I am in the exact same shoes as you, I have 4.0.1 iphone4 and i want to upgrade to 4.2.1 but not lose my unlock. and am looking for the safest way to do this with the untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak.

no.. u dont need greenpoison or other jailbreak apps... after you create the custom ipsw file using PT (Foe Mac) or Sn0breeze (for Win)... Cydia is pre-installed.. all you have to do next is install ultrasn0w for unlock enjoy!

If you are upgrading to 4.2.1 then you don't need TU. Apple is still signing 4.2.1 I use TU as a habit.

If you are on t-mobile then you will have to hacktivate.

Do a search for "SAM prefs". For people that need to hacktivate it will give valid certs so you don't get bad battery drain. I'm on auhorized carrier so I don't use it but others may be helpful. Good luck.
