Stuck in DFU mode after trying to restore with custom ipsw

I tried to jailbreak my iPhone 4 (4.1). I built an ipsw with PwnageTool and saved my SHSH with TinyUmbrella but the first ipsw didn't seem to work. I built a new ipsw and the restore appeared to have worked, but the phone booted into DFU mode. I've tried restoring with the custom ipsw a couple of times and it does the same thing, I can't get out of DFU mode the standard way and trying to restore with the unmodified ipsw gives me an error 1004.

1) How can I get out of DFU mode?
2) If I do, how should I go about trying to jailbreak my phone?
3) If I just tell the phone to update and restore to 4.2, I know I won't be able to jailbreak, but will the phone be able to update to the legitimate FW?

Try just restoring to a regular 4.1 again, when you get the 1004 error use tiny umbrella to exit recovery.
