Default Problem Upgrading Unlocked iPhone 3g from 3.0 to 4.0.1

    Hi everyone,

I've jailbroken and unlocked several iPods and iPhones, but have never had as much trouble as I am this time around.

I have an iPhone 3g (model MB046LL) on 3.0 (7A341) that was jailbroken and unlocked using pwnagetool/ultrasnow. It's been running slow lately and eating through battery power so I figured it's about time to upgrade and re unlock it.

It seems everything's gotten a lot more complicated with iOS4, but my baseband is still early enough (04.26.08) that I don't have to worry about all the iPad BS.

When I went to create a custom IPSW in pwnagetool 4.1.3 (using expert mode) it keeps telling me I have "selected the wrong firmware bundle" when I browse and select the 4.0.1 firmware I downloaded.

I've tried downloading the firmware from different places (I also know it's the correct firmware for my 3g, it's 1,2) and also redownloading pwnagetool and even downloading earlier versions of pwnagetool, all to no avail.

Is there anything else I can do besides upgrading through iTunes and then using a different method (redsn0w or something) to jailbreak it?

I would really love to not change my baseband if I don't have to.

There's no particular reason why I'm not upgrading to 4.1 or 4.2, should I try using those IPSWs in pwnagetool?

    Thanks for the help,
    Michael

    (also my first post, woo!)

I would just jump to 4.2.1. Not sure if Pwnagetool includes the bundles for the 3G or not... You might need custom bundles, and you might have to use redsn0w to jailbreak after upgrading (at least you're untethered!). That was the process for the iP4 anyway.
