My iphone is working fine now

    thanks to x98car

he sent a custom made ipsw

I used redson0w to go to Pawned DFU, this needs to be done or Itunes will give the error 1600 when restoring

then, I used redson0w to jailbreak

BTW when choosing the IPSW for redsn0w

I used another IPSW (from Iclarfied, not the custum IPSW)

    Then after the jailbreak

    I installed ultrasn0w

    rebot my Iphone

and it's working fine tethered rebot.

I hope this will be usefull to someone

    thanks x98car for your help

Hi I'm having the same problem as the guy you have helped, I really need a custom firmware, I have a Mac and a Win7, but I don't know what to do. I've tried everything, every program I can think of, several 4.2.1 FW's I find. Nothing is getting me out of this Recovery Loop Mode.

Alright, I have tried to use the CFW you sent me, it got to the flashing baseband part, and then it either finished or kicked me out and sent me right back to the Recovery mode, as always. I have tried everything, now when I try iTunes it kicks me out of DFU and stops my restores and gives me the 16xx error, at least it's something different than the 1015 error I have been getting though.

UPDATE: I re-ran the CFW through Redsn0w and it gets to the end, but it still puts me back in the Recovery Mode Loop, is my phone as good as done?
UPDATE 2: I have also tried to boot tethered, didn't work, and I am definitely in Pwned DFU Mode. Still sends me right back to Recovery.

You need to use redsnow, point it to a regular 4.2.1 firmware, then only choose the option to enter pwned dfu.
Once in pwned dfu, shift restore to the custom firmware in itunes.

Never use a custom firmware with redsnow, only regular. Redsnow does not restore or update firmware, only itunes does that.

Ha I'm an idiot, if I hadn't of used that FW in the first place to restore my phone I probably wouldn't have messed anything up. I remembered using that website a while back and my restore worked, so thought it was custom . But I'm downloading the one you sent me now just because I don't have anything left to do besides try anything, and I'm downloading the original 4.2.1. And I'll do what you said.

Hi! I somehow got into the same predicament as equarter, via the same steps. I do have a variety of custom ipsw files on my hard disk, and I've used two or three apps to get myself out of recovery mode, but when the iPhone restarts, it returns to recovery mode, regardless of whether it is connected to or detached from my Mac. I think I've done one too many things to the iPhone in the past few hours. For jailbreaking my iPhone 3G S, I have all of the following:
    bl39.bin, bl46.bin, blackra1n.app, DiskAid.app, ExitRecoveryMode.app, f0recast.app, greenpois0n.app, iPhone Explorer.app, iUnlock 4.2.1a.app, limera1n.app, PwnageTool.app, redsn0w.app, TeamViewer.app, TinyUmbrella.app, ultrasn0w-1.2.deb, and a variety of ipsw that I've created as well as some that I've downloaded.

If you can send the same PM to me that you sent earlier to equarter, maybe I can permanently get out of Recovery Mode and restore my iPhone to working order.

The iPhone was working yesterday even after a jailbreak, except that the Cydia app had a clear generic icon instead of the usual brown one, and it would not launch even once. I also lost GPS capabilities as other recent jailbreakers have experienced. I'm not sure what all I did in the last several hours using these various apps and ipsw files, but I seem to have bricked my iPhone somehow.

I'm hoping you can help in some way unless the PM that you sent to equarter covers something that I've already done.

P.S. xDzul seems to have been writing with a somewhat similar situation while I was composing my post. I'll just add this addendum that I've been using an ipsw file downloaded directly from apple, but iTunes 10.1.1 and the old iTunes 9.1 won't let me restore to this firmware, continually repeating the 1015 error. I didn't save my original SHSH before my first jailbreak attempt, so I'm probably stuck.

Use redsnow 0.9.6b6 and choose the boot tethered option.

Well, tried to do the restore exactly like you said, but my phone got to preparing iPhone for restore, then got kicked out of DFU and put right back into Recovery and I got the 1611 error.

    Thanks for the reply, x98car.

I just tried rebooting with redsn0w 0.9.6b6 using the boot tethered option, and it did show the pineapple logo for a while during the reboot. Afterward, the usual apple icon appeared, followed by the usual icons indicating recovery mode (iTunes icon above an arrow above a USB cable image).

I'll just mention the further information that I do seem to have the new boot ROM rather than the old one, and I did modify the baseband somewhere along the line in one of my attempts using the iPad baseband set.

I'm therefore still stuck in recovery mode. Some of the other mentioned apps also have a boot tethered option, so I'll try them as well, but I'm not optimistic about the results.

Ok, so you need to use a custom 4.2.1 to restore to. Once restored then you will need to use that boot tethered option whenever you reboot.
