No Cydia after "successful" jailbreaking of iPhone 3G 3.1.2 (05.12.01)
I believe I've figured out this much: after jailbreaking my iPhone 3G 3.1.2 with Pwnage Tool 3.1.4, I should run redsn0w via Cydia in order to unlock the phone to use it with the T-Mobile SIM I bought. (I thought to post this in the T-Mobile forum, but seeing as I can't see ANY network [tried with my Dad's AT&T SIM], I thought here was best to start.) However, there is no Cydia app icon available on my "desktop"! So, I'm turning to you for help. I've heard OS 4.x is slow on the 3G, so I'm thinking it's best to stay on 3.1.x. Should I try with jailbreaking with Pwnage Tool 3.1.5? What to do?
Thanks!

Restore to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 and use either redsnow 0.9.4 to or jailbreakme.com to jailbreak. You can then install ultrasnow from cydia to unlock.

Go with redsn0w as mentioned above. Jailbreakme is easy and all but it makes booting and rebooting take forever. This is due to it saving code in the framebuffer to keep you untethered. Redsn0w doesn't have this issue. When you are finished don't forget to install the PDF fix from saurik to fix the PDF exploit hole.

Sorry, but how do I restore after jailbreaking in order to re-jailbreak with Redsn0w? Also, can I easily find this PDF fix?
Thanks so much!

Ok, I was able to restore to 3.1.3 (iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw) using iTunes and successfully jailbreak my phone using Redsn0w 0.9.4 and the 3.1.2 ipsw (iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore). I now have Cydia on my phone's desktop.
However, I still got stuck on the unlock, adding sources to Cydia was new to me! This is helping: http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/20...-iphone-3-1-2/, though I seem to be stuck on another step now: Cydia's spinning wheels on the Reloading Data screen after trying to add that UltraSn0w source... So, Cydia's stuck in loading mode. What to do?Last edited by xqzes; 12-19-2010 at 06:54 PM.

It is 5.12.01. My real issue right now is that Cydia's stuck on the "Loading Data" screen. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this!
I haz success! Just had to be REALLY patient with the Cydia load time, but I was able to download UltraSn0w, and all is working finally! Thanks for all your help!Last edited by xqzes; 12-20-2010 at 02:25 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
