Default Looking for some Confirmed Advice

I've searched, read and watched more bs tutorials than I care to admit. Most are just trying to get you to take a survey. I always find that I can trust what I get here but I hate asking because I get jumped by the "search first police".

I have a 3gs 4.2.1 firmware and baseband 5.15.04. I've created the custom firmware to restore from but I have a few questions.
    1. Am I to follow through the dfu prompts after creating the custom firmware in Pwnage Tool or Restore via Itunes?
    2. I assumed Itunes but Apples servers obviously won't approve my custom rebuild. How is that bypasses?

You know you really should search...lol, just playin

For restoring to a custom firmware you need to enter pwned dfu first which is what that part at the end in pwnage tool is about. Otherwise you will get an error.

Thank you this was pretty helpful information. Except for when I use Pwnage tool to enter dfu, I get an all black screen and Itunes detects an Iphone in recovery mode. When I attempt to restore with my custom build I get an " This device isn't elegible for this build" error. I'm guessing I need to redirect the verification process to Cydia rather than apple ?

Yes, you need to redirect the verification to Cydia, but only if Cydia has your SHSH for the firmware you're trying to go back to on file. You can use TinyUmbrella to check and see which ones Cydia is holding for you. If nothing is on file, you're stuck with 4.2.1 and up.

Edit: TinyUmbrella will also redirect the verification for you if it is on file. Read the instructions on using TU on the developer's site.
