i know thread on Modmyi where someone used custom firmware and it's still there no one took it down. Totally of the topic. But yes as x98 said it's against Modmyi policy to link custom firmwares.
It can be unlocked and jailbroken. And few steps are needed to upgrade your baseband to ipad baseband and if you do that you will never be able to restore to stock firmware you will need custom firmware to wipe your iphone down.
OR...You can just jailbreak it and wait until unlock for the newest 4.3 baseband is released whenever that might be.
You can get download if you find on google activated custom 4.2.1 and restore you iphone with it, or use simcard that can bypass emergency screen. If you know someone that has ATT from friends ask them to use their sim, if not, try the other option.Last edited by delusion950; 02-13-2011 at 12:17 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

If you know a thread that has a custom firmware link you should report it.

If moderators commented on it and and haven't decided to take it down, i personally could care less. Other people find it useful so lets let is stay that way. I love modmyi am not going to snich on the community =P

Custom firmware links are against forum rules. If you report it you aren't hurting MMi, you are helping it. Sounds very fishy to me saying moderators have commented on it and left it there...

hey baskie,
I could use some new firmware too. except maybe it won't work. I got a 3g that I bought from some guy. apparently it was jailbroken and I had no idea, so upon "updating the iphone" through itunes I've screwed it beyond any recognition. so I'm willing to try anything to fix it. any ideas?
