I recently upgraded my itunes to itunes 10 and my iphone 2g to 3.0.3 from a 2.2.1. I downloaded a pwnage tool to unlock my phone since I don't use an at&t sim. When i use the tool, it said i needed a 8.0 version of itunes or higher. i just ignored it and was able to (i think) jailbreak the phone. it said i needed to connect my phone to itunes,i did, but itunes couldn't recognize the setting and i had to restore it to the "original" setting. When i did that, i think my phone isn't jailbroken anymore.
Is there a way to jailbreak my phone with iTunes 10?
I followed "How to Jailbreak/Unlock 3.1.3 iPhone 2G Windows & OS X" and after I downloaded all the necessary files my iPhone (2g currently 3.1.2) iTunes wouldn't recognize my phone was plugged in. The entire OSX (v.10.6) ignored it EXCEPT for iPhoto.
I am fine with following the (above) guide, however it won't work if I can't even update with iTunes...
Would it be safe for me to upgrade my phone to 3.1.3 some other way?
Then download the 2g 3.1.3 ipsw onto your desktop and then do the Alt/Option + restore to 3.1.3
Download the BL 3.9 and 4.6, redsn0w 0.9.4 , 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 ipsw.
2g can now be jailbroken and unlocked for lifespan of your device
