3GS (old Bootrom) running 4.1 - Can I JB?

I'm looking to run Sn0wbreeze but it says old-bootroms 3Gs must be jailbroken before I run it. How is that possible?

You have to downgrade 3.1.2 or 3.1.2 with shsh blogs first and then jailbreak with Redsn0w or Blackr1an and then only restore to snowbreeze_4.1_ipsw.

and if I use Pwnage on Mac, do I still need to have an-already-jailbroken iPhone and saved SHSHs? Or can I just use my 3GS 4.1 (Old bootrom) and jailbreak it? (No need for unlock as the phone is simfree).

To use custom firmware from Pwnage tools or Snowbreeze, you still need to be jailbroken first at 3.1.2 by either blackra1n or Redsn0w. When you are restoring to custom firmware, you do not need shsh blogs.
Once your iphone can accept custom firmware, it will always accept custom firmware again as long as you stay away from restoring to stock firmware. When restoring to custom firmware, you must always put your iphone into recovery mode first not DFU or you will get an error.

I read lots of info and I thought it didn't matter if you were running 4.0.1 Just as long as it was jailbroken before. The only question I was unsure about was if you used JailbreakMe would it still work?

My iPhone 3G[S] contains the New Bootrom... So I can not use the sn0wbreezeV2. Is there another way or app for someone running Windows to use custom firmware? I have never gone past Blackr1an & jailbreak.com

If you use jailbreakme , it won't work with Custom Firmwware, and you must also have the old bootrom too.

Thanks, just 1 more question...

What about redsn0w or pwnage? I am running 4.0.1 can I do custom firmware with these apps? Should I start the endless reading to learn more info haha?

Edit..
Is pwanage only for mac and redsnow for windows? I just googled them lol

You can use tiny umbrella to check if you have 3.1.2 shsh blgos with Cydia, if you don't have it, then you cannot use the 24kpwn at 3.1.2 to restore and then jailbreak with Redsn0w or Blackra1n first before proceeding to restore to custom fimrware.

Since you are running at 4.0.1, use jailbreakme 2.0 to jailbreak.
