3G upgrade from 3.1.2 to 4.0
Hi guys, I have a bit of a noob question. Mods- sorry if this is in the wrong place
I have 3G on 3.1.2 jb'd and unlock with Blackra1n and ultrasnow. I have read the post on here about upgrading to 4.0 with Pwnage and it seems possible but I want to check before I brick my phone! Has anyone done this successfully? My BB is 5.11.07 and I want 4.0 , JB'd and carrier unlock if possible. Also is this reversible to 3.1.2 if it doesn't work?

I hope so, because I have the exact same configuration and I'm about to try it..

3.1.2 to 4.0
Good luck lucky644 let me know how you get on! Something that needs to be cleared up is wether you upgrade to 4 with itunes before you use pwnage or not?

I skipped pwnage, did redsn0w, used itunes to 'restore' and then redsn0w and it worked fine.

Nice one lucky644! any chance of a step by step? did you update through itunes then use redsn0w or the other way round?

I 'restored' to 4.0 in itunes, ran redsn0w with no options checked except install cydia on the ipsw that itunes downloaded and it jailbroke it, after confirming 4.0 worked I told iTunes to restore my backed up data.

Sorry for the delay been on holiday , I presume you did a shift restore using the firmware downloaded from the link in the tutorial? Did you manage to unlock aswell?

I didn't try a unlock, I don't actually need it since I like my carrier

@lucky644 How well does iOS4 work on your 3G? Is your phone sluggish at all or do you have no problems?

The act of Jailbreaking in itself actually seems to cause my phone to be more sluggish, however, I haven't noticed that 4.0 made it any more sluggish, mind you I didn't install anything on my 3G that isn't supposed to be there, aka multitasking, background....etc
When I wipe my phone and play with it, then jailbreak, whether on 3.0 or 4.0, it feels slower to me, could just be me though.

i upgraded to 4.0 and it has been a headache. My apps don't work 100% of the time. Most times i have to respring. I like the multitasking and all, but I'm getting close to downgrading back to 3.1.2.
Has anyone had any luck?
How does 4.0.1 run on 3G? Is there a jailbreak version via Pwnage tool?

3G phones should stay on 3.1.x. iOS 4, 4.0.1, and 4.0.2 are all poor options for us 3G users.
Downgrade if youre experiencing problems, dont upgrade more.
