Default "Setup as new iPhone" question

OK, so I have been jailbreaking for a couple years now, and I was just informed that if I "setup as new iPhone" the battery drains very quickly. So if do setup as a new iPhone, can I then get my backed-up data onto the iPhone? If so, how?

I didn't realize that a sync restores the info that is in the backup?

OK, that did not work AT ALL. NONE of my contacts were transferred, and I am not surprised. So now I have a backup of my iPhone in the iTunes---->Preferences---->Devices" that has all of my info on it, but I can't get it onto the phone-HELP!!!!!

I'm interested in the part about the battery draining? How could it affect the battery?

I think he got it mixed up; backups can cause issues because of injections that have been done to them. Semi like Zwayne said.

After you jailbreak, you will have the option in iTunes to sync your contacts/music/etc from a previous iPhone.
