stuck in restore screen after trying to restore again to a custom 3.1.2
Hi Everyone,
My I was pretty much ok except that apps from iTunes would not start...they would "expand" and then shrink right back (Cydia apps worked ok). So I though that something went wrong the first time I upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1.2. (I remember that I selected "recover from back up" not setup a new phone...and was reading somewhere that is better to start from scratch. )
I just DFU and pointed iTunes to the custom ipsw and it started but then I get "This device isn’t eligible for the requested build"...I tried again and now the pineapple shows for a second and the the "russian" screen http://limitededitioniphone.com/wp-c.../04/steved.jpg
What can I do to fix this and still keep my 04.26.08 bb.

When you're already jailbroken, you don't need to put your phone in DFU mode when trying to load a custom firmware. In fact, you shouldn't as it will cause 160x errors.
You should boot your phone and just have it sit on the springboard and then in iTunes, hold 'shift' while clicking 'restore'. Then point to the custom 3.1.2 firmware you have.
To get out of DFU, press and hold both power and home button until the apple logo flashes and then immediately let go of both. Wait 10 seconds and then turn on your phone by pushing the power button.

Just re-read your first post. Were you already jailbroken when you got the 'ineligible build' error? If you were, I don't think you were restoring to a custom firmware since custom ones don't need to be signed which means you shouldn't see that error.
For booting the phone, try iReb or quickpwn 2.2 (I think it's quickpwn 2.2 I've read about that successfully get people out of boot problems).

Do try iReb. It works on 3GS too. You need to click in the bottom right where it says 'Fix recovery mode loop'. You then get the option to choose 3GS.
