PwnageTool for 1G iPhone?

can I use pwnagetool to jailbreak/unlock my 1G iPhone (currently running FW 2.2)?
all I can find are guides to jailbreak 2G iPhones, but not 1G iPhones.
would it work on a 1G iPhone?

The original iPhone is generally accepted as being called the 2G (it has nothing to do with "generation", it's to do with the way it receives information). So you'll be fine.

I've downloaded pwnagetool and the other file that were listed in the guide. I can open the pwnagetool and start with the first steps, but as soon as it should start building the ipsw the program quits...

what did I wrong???
