No service after upgrading from Jailbroken iPhone G3 running OS 2.2.1

I jailbroke my iPhone sucessfully awhile back and have been running OS 2.2.1 custom of course. Since the release of 3.0 I have been leary to upgrade but finally have chosen to do so.

I run Pwnage 3.1.4 to customize the iPhone OS 3.1.2 and after doing so my phone never reactivates service so I can use it once again.
I get the message Waiting to acitvate. This will take some time.
I did get some other message but it never went any further.

I reinstalled the OS 2.2.1 and it reactivates after restoring instantly.

What am I doing wrong to update my iPhone G3 to the latest OS it can run jailbroken.
My baseband is at 2.30.03

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

you can use a custom 3.1.2 file str8 from 2.2.1

You need to restore to a stock 3.0 or 3.0.1 ipsw, then load your custom 3.1.2

Basically you need to have the 04.26.08 baseband for ultrasn0w to work...
