can this 3gs be jailbroken with pwnage?
Hello,
I have a brand new 3gs, still in its box. The 3rd, 4th ,and 5th digits of the serial number are 9, 3 and 2.
Based on those numbers, will it have the iboot restriction, or should I just go ahead and pwn it?
Thanks fro reading!

Thanks baby_blue for your answer!
If you don't mind, what's the cut-out serial number combo that will tell whether a 3gs can be jailbroken?
So, the steps I would need to take then would be:
1. Take phone out of the box
2. Download latest version of itunes, hook up the iphone.
3. Go through the registration process,
4. Do not allow for any updates from Apple to be installed
5. jailbreak with blackra1n
question: should I go through ECID with The Firmware umbrella to get my ECID SHSH for 3.1.2 -- I guess this will be very important for jailbreaking 3.2 when it is released??

At the moment, you want your phone to be at the latest version (3.1.2), so for step four, if it asks you to upgrade your firmware to 3.1.2, go ahead and let it update... (since your on the older bootrom, your most likely on 3.1, so let it update to 3.1.2)
After you jailbreak and install cydia, theres an option to "make my life easier", just do that, and you wont have to worry about saving your ecid file..
And as far as reading the serial number, the 3rd number means what year it was produced, 9 = 09. the 4th and 5th are the weeks of production. For example your 932, means it was produced in 2009, and it was made in the 32nd week....
40 is the middle number... to my knowledge week 40 is about when they started coming out with the new bootrom... basically you have a 50/50 chance...
Your chances might be good, because i've seen a 41 week device that was on the old bootrom, and the dev team said they have seen an older bootrom on a week 42 device...
But then again we've seen some week 40's that were on the new bootrom ....
Theres better ways to see exactly what bootrom you have though, i'm just not familiar with a good methodLast edited by babyblue_pimp; 11-27-2009 at 01:16 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Go with PwnageTool instead. A lot of people are reporting issues with wifi after using blackra1n.

Wifi is more of a blacksn0w related issue...
and even that can be fixed with a few restarts and a network resetLast edited by babyblue_pimp; 11-27-2009 at 04:58 PM.
