Updating Carrier Setting on 3.1.2 Jailbreak
Hello all,
My phone has been jailbroken for a couple months now.. and every time I plug in my phone to my computer, I get a popup saying:
"An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to install it now?"
This is on the iPhone 3G and my current carrier setting is AT&T 5.5 and I believe this is asking me to update to 5.6. I've searched around and cant seem to find a definite answer to whether or not updating the carrier setting will ruin my jailbreak and tethering abilities.
Anyone have any experiences?
Thanks!

How do you have tethering on 3.1.2? Mine is jailbroken with mywi installed for tethering. Updating your carrier settings definetly will not affect your jailbreak. I'm using carrier 6.0 and I still have my jailbreak and tether. But againi had my tether through mywi... Downloaded via rockapp.

You can update to a custom carrier profile. Search around the net for one by stealth bravo. It's a custom version 6.0 for AT&T. You also won't get the anoying pop up anymore in iTunes. In my opinion, I would utilize mywi or PDANet for tethering. That way you know for sure that your carrier can't track your usage since all traffic is not passing thru the tethering gateway. Just my $.02.

I did the 2-bit hack found here: Enable Tethering on iPhone 3G 3GS 3.1.2 Firmware | Redmond Pie
And I made this IPCC for AT&T:
ATT_US.ipcc
It uses the "phone" apn for data on the phone, and Tethering. So it is un traceable by the APN.. Plus it has the nice at&t Logo, instead of the text "AT&T" (I ripped the Logo from the Carrier logo package that I found on Cydia) It is version 5.6
