3G 3.1.2 issues.
I upgraded to 3.1.2 because the phone wouldn't wake from sleep(just like everyone else's). After it finished installing and syncing, the phone has no reception and does not have any of my previous setting from cydia and the normal settings menu.
Is this common? Any help would be great.

Since firmware 3.1, Apple started signing the carrier bundle. This caused the carrier logo to be missing from the iPhone status bar when using PwnageTool to create a custom firmware. It is purely a cosmetic issue and can be rectified by installing "MakeItMine" in Cydia. If you are not able to make calls, then you did not select the right choices when creating your custom 3.1.2 firmware, like "Activate the Phone". If you are using an official carrier like AT&T, then you should unselect "Activate the phone". If you are using a non-official carrier like T-Mobile, then you need to select "Activate the phone" and then install Ultrasn0w in Cydia (Assuming your baseband is 04.26.08).
If you updated your baseband before doing this, then you will need to wait until GeoHot's Nov 4th release of Blackra1n that will include the ability to unlock (Blacksn0w) the new baseband 05.11.07.

When you say upgraded, did you restore Apple's stock 3.1.2 firmware? If yes, then everything is normal other than the fact that your phone has no reception. Is it originally a locked unit? If so, then your upgrade killed your unlock. If it's an open phone that was bought from either Germany or Hong Kong, the only other instance I can think of is you left the "Activate" option checked (should be unchecked) when you created a custom IPSW.

Same thing here... I never had a problem with jailbreaking before, but this one is giving me problems.. Only for my custom jailbreak settings though.. Don't understand it?
EDIT: I just tried it again for the 3rd time in a row and it finally worked. I don't know how, but something clicked finally... These are the steps that I took to do it:
Make sure iTunes and iTunes helper are both stopped.
Build custom firmware making sure you uncheck the activate phone option for ATT users
Uncheck ICY if you don't want it.. I never used it and don't have a need for it...
Build your custom firmware.
Once it is built, open up blackra1n RC3
Jailbreak your phone from there
Wait for it to reboot
Open iTunes once phone has completely reboot
Option (Mac) click and choose your custom firmware
It should work for all you ATT users out there now... I'm not sure why it took me 3 times to get it, but something worked... hopefully this helps some people out! Thank me if soo!Last edited by khaoticsquirrel; 11-05-2009 at 08:42 PM. Reason: Found solution to problem
