Default Pwnage tool 3.1.2 option for Windows users

I've some information for those that don't have access to a Mac and want to create a custom IPSW using pwnage.

This is for purposes of creating a custom IPSW only!
    - do not attempt to restore your iPhone through the Mac VM.
    - Only restore using Windows, using the custom IPSW you create using this process.
    - this means this process will *only* work for devices that are *already* jailbroken on 3.0

You'll need to run Mac OS X on your Windows platform using VMWare.

Here are the steps I followed:

    - Install VMWare Server 2.0.1
    - Install JaS Mac OS X 10.4.8 ISO in virtual machine
    - google for where to obtain ISO and install instructions
    - make sure you make your VM hard disk IDE, not SCSI

    - Once Mac VM is up and running
    - Install Firefox and use this for any/all subsequent downloading to your Mac VM. If you download an IPSW, Safari may auto-extract it. (This is bad, from what I understand )
    - Firefox for Mac: Mozilla | Firefox official site (open this link in Safari, open all other links in Firefox)
    - Install iTunes 7.5. This can be downloaded from Apple: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite..../iTunes7.5.dmg
    - JaS is bundled with iTunes 7.0, but 7.5+ is required for Pwnage to launch without crashing.
    - ITunes 7.6 and above won't run on 10.4.8.

    - Now that you have a Mac VM with ITunes 7.5 installed, install and run the pwnage tool using one of the fine guides available here or elsewhere.
    - Note that when you launch pwnage, it will complain that you need iTunes 8.0 or higher to restore your phone. This isn't an issue as we won't be doing a restore from the Mac, we'll just be building the IPSW.

    - When pwnage has completed building the IPSW and asks if your device has been pwned before, answer "yes".

    - You'll need to transfer the IPSW file to your windows platform. This can be tricky.
    - There are several ways to do this; what I did was sftp the file to the /tmp directory my jailbroken iPhone running SSH, then sftp the IPSW from the iPhone to Windows. I used FileZilla to connect via sftp to the iPhone on both Mac and Windows.
    - after the transfer is complete, make sure you delete the ipsw from /tmp on your iPhone.
    - On the Mac, you'll need to use FileZilla 3.0.6 as later releases don't work with Mac OS 10.4.8.
Get FileZilla 3.0.6 for Mac here
Get latest FileZilla for Windows here

Once you have the IPSW on Windows, you can shift-restore in iTunes to jailbreak your device to 3.1.2.

    I hope this information helps.
