Default do I have to use PwnageTool every time I jailbreak an iPhone?

I can only jailbreak if I go through the step after creating the custom firmware by PwnageTool, then select No when it asks if my phone has been pwned before.

is there any way that I can just put the iphone in DFU or restore mode and restore the custom firmware through iTunes without doing the repetitive tasks every time I jailbreak?

    Regards

You should be able to restore with the custom firmware you made previously. You do not need to use DFU mode for the repeat restore with the custom firmware. Just open iTunes and click "option-restore" then select your custom firmware. Itunes will put the phone into restore mode automatically.

If your iPhone 3GS is jailbroken, you do not need to put it into either DFU or Recovery mode before restoring your custom firmware in iTunes.

If your iPhone 3GS is NOT jailbroken, then you need to put your it into DFU mode, before restoring your custom firmware in iTunes.

If you are still getting an "error 16xx", then either you are selecting the wrong firmware for your iPhone model or you have one of the new unjailbreakable iPhone 3GS that have the updated iBoot. The 4th and 5th digits of the serial number represent the production week your 3GS was manufactured in. If the week number is < 40, you are safe. Some week 40 models are jailbreakable, but many are not. All week 41 models are not jailbreakable.

Putting your phone in DFU (if your phone's been pwned before) will cause iTunes to get error 1603. Simply open itunes, click option+restore and pick your custom firmware and it will work. (Or you can manually put your phone in recovery)
