Did I seal my fate?
I have a 3GS thats been jailbroken on 3.0. Ive been holding out for 3.-- Windows jailbreak but my phone crashed today and I couldnt get it back without having to do a restore.
My question is, once the jailbreak comes out for Windows, will I be able to jailbreak?
I do/did have the ECID files or whatever they are stored on Cydia.
I had no choice
Thanks guysLast edited by DJ420a; 10-08-2009 at 09:01 PM.

As long as you are on ATT or a contract carrier Couldnt he still use a custom firmware from pwnage and jAilbreak since he has his ecid stored on cydia? He just would be stuck with the newer baseband and won't be able to unlock.

Well, since he didn't specify what ECID SHSH he has on file, that really can't be answered. If he has 3.0 ECID SHSH, then yes, he could downgrade to 3.0, JB, then upgrade to custom 3.1 But if he has 3.1 ECID SHSH, then no, downgrading is not possible which kills the chance to use a custom 3.1

Yep. Read this
Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)
easy steps
Backup phone/apps ets as required
1. alter hosts file the way he says to in that article
2. Put phone into DFU mode (black screen)
3. Shift+Restore to iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
4. 1015 error, phone automatically put into recovery mode (usb cable/itunes logo)
5. Shift+Restore to iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw again
6. 1015 error again, phone still in recovery mode
7. Close itunes at this point
8. Hold Home & Sleep buttons for 15 seconds, release home & hold sleep for 2 more seconds
9. Timing is critical for step 8, if you get put back into recovery mode, repeat step 8. until you get the "Slide for emergency" screen after the apple logo
10. Open iTunes and let your phone activate
11. Run redsn0w 0.8 and jailbreak your phone
12. If you want to go to 3.1, download an UNactivated custom 3.1 firmware with Cydia pre-installed and just shift+restore in itunes (no DFU or recovery mode required on Windows for loading custom 3.1)
13. Be careful and ensure you trust the source of the custom firmware if you decide to go that route.
Also, if you do load a custom 3.1, if you ever need a restore for any reason in the future, as long as you don't restore to stock, you can just restore to your custom 3.1 No need to ever lose your jailbreak again, just have to deal with the hassle of reconfiguring your phone and getting all your apps back.Last edited by L00i3; 10-10-2009 at 04:24 PM.
