Default How does it work for me?

I know most of the members here are tired of the classic "i dont know how to" cases, I am one but right now i'm back to being that classic noob!

Anyways, I just got my hands on a ibook g4 from a friend (50) bucks couldnt say no and i figured i would finally be able to jailbreak my iphone!

Until i started reading and looking at stuff and i think i've ran into some problems i'm not to sure but anyways, i do have some questions about pwnagetool and if i can even pull this off.

    Couple quick points:
iphone 3g running 3.1 default software.
    ibook g4 running mac os x 10.4.7

Can i create a custom firmware that will work on my iphone? Or will it not because i'm on 3.0 anymore.

Second, if thats a no, and i think i know the answer to the following (no) but i gotta know, is there a way to downgrade back to 3.0? or is it not possible because 3.1 upgrades the baseband and that is what causes the 1600 errors when trying to go back firmwares.

You should be able to create the custom firmware. I'm not 100% sure if you have to down grade or not to install it though. I have downgraded from 3.1 to 3.0. I did get an error, but I searched the forums and found the fix. I would recommend DFU mode (not restore mode) to downgrade and to upgrade.
