iPhone 2G without a power button
|
Hi everyone, I am usually always helping people out but for this one, I prefer to ask before taking the challenge. My brother in law has a 2G iPhone and his power button is broken. Hence, he cannot put his phone in DFU. He is still using 1.1.3. My wife's 2G is @ 3.0 but to put the 3.0 and get it to install properly, the first time I put the phone in DFU and got an error. Rebooted the phone and came back to the home screen on 2.2.1 I then clicked "ALT+Restore" and picked the pwned 2G 3.0 firmware and everything worked.
So my question becomes, can I take a 2G iphone on 1.1.3 and simply ALT+RESTORE and pick the file and bring it up to 3.0 or do I absolutely need the DFU mode since this phone has never been pwned?
Thanks for your answers.
Jon
