Accessing data after yellowsn0w unlock

I used quickpawn months ago to jailbreak 2.2. I still have baseband 2.8. The phone is 3G. I recently used yellowsn0w from Cydia to unlock my phone as I am selling it overseas. I tried my friends US based Tbobile simm card and the phone seached and found Tmobile Edge network with no problem. It makes calls fine. When I tried to get to the internet I got a cannot activate cellular network message. Is this normal? Can unlocked phones generally use Safarie and get on the internet? Thanks

you have to input some settings to get the data running. go to settings> general>network> cellular data network> under apn settings type epc.tmobile.com. then reboot your phone.
