    Default Pronunciation

I really had no idea where to put this, so I put this in the Pwnage forum.

I've always wondered it, and today I finally Googled it. Still haven't got a definite answer, though.

How do you pronounce pwn? o.o I tried telling someone to use QuickPwn to jailbreak their iPhone, but I had to stop after "Quick" because I had no idea how to pronounce the "Pwn" part. LMFAO So I just said "Google 'jailbreak iPhone' and you'll find a guide".

After Googling it, I've gotten all kinds of answers. "Pawn", "own", "pone", "poon" (HAHAHAHA), "prawn" , "it's simply a written word and not meant to be said", and even someone who thought it was "porn".

When I first saw the word, I thought it was "pawn". Then I found out it was just a misspelling of "own". So is it "QuickOwn", "QuickPawn", "QuickPorn", or what?! I really hate this word.

BTW, never have, never will ever say this out loud other than to talk about QuickPwn.

Pwn comes from video gamers who pretty much make up words to say that they beat you. They turned own into pwn. So, for me, pwn=pone...

Now, the way it was told to me by my 17 year old is that it is actually pronounced "own" since it was supposedly a typo that showed up as "pwn". He is always exclaiming that he "owned" someone. Doesn't mean hes right though.

That's how I've heard it originated, it was meant to say 'owned' and a typo makes it 'pwned,' pronounced like 'owned' with a P in the front. It's sort of like porn and pron.

Same. Since that's what I thought it was the first time I saw it, that's the word that always pops up in my head. I know it's wrong, and I correct myself, but I still think it sometimes.

It seems to either be "own" or "pone". I even heard "poned" on Hannah Montana (don't ask), so I'm really just not sure. Guess it all depends on what you prefer, but I feel like an idiot saying either.

SOMEONE! Whoever would make this decision, PLEASE change the name from QuickPwn to Quick...well...any REAL English word!

And look at that. After making this thread, the next blog or whatever posted up in the news forum was this: iPhone Pwns Smartphone Surfing!
