Default Found a "bricked" phone, iffy on buying...

I found a really good deal on a 16gb iPhone 3G, but the owner describes the problem as, "The phone comes up with the pineapple logo, hangs for a few seconds, then powers down." I don't want to ask him about DFU mode and possibly give away a good deal if he tries it and it works...is an iPhone ever really "bricked?" Does anyone know if DFU mode MIGHT be able to restore a phone in this condition?

Quick replies, please...a deal this good sure won't last long if I can fix it...

yeah, its almost impossable to brick it(unplugging it during unlock)...maybe, even that can be fixed.

yeah bricking is absolutely impossible.... it is always possible to restore an iphone unless you do some sort of physical damage
