ugh, help with upgrading and jailbreaking

okay. i messed up with my first iPhone 3G and i upgraded by accident and i had to sell it and get a new one with the older firmware.

I'M VERY SCARED OF DOING IT AGAIN!!!

can anybody help me in excruciating detail on how to update to 2.2.1 and keep Firmware 2.28.00 with jailbreak, on Pwnage Tool.

iPhone Specs:
iPhone 3G 16 Gig
Version: 2.2 (5G77)
Modem Firmware: 2.28.00

Computer Specs.
iMac 10.5.6
Pwnage Tool: 2.2.5

i need very clear details. how do i create the custom ipsw. and such.

just download the 2.2.1 fw and find it in pwnage in expert mode.. when it asks you all the options just doubble click general and select keep current baseband or dont update baseband (somthing like that)

also click activate while your there

-sigh- i did it.

now i ran into the DFU mode problem. i downloaded the USB Drivers and rebooted, and it's still not working.

this is ridiculous.

Why not stay on 2.2? 2.2.1 is nothing to be sweating over.

i couldn't care less what version i'm on, honestly.

i really just need my phone unlocked.

but now i'm stuck with this DFU mode problem. :[

i have the custom ipsw. made. now i just need to figure out this DFU thing.

any help?
