Do I have to download the 2.2.0 (3G): iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw file??
Is that file also needed just to jailbreak? When and how in the process if needed is it run? TY

Yes, if your speaking of using quickpwn.....it is needed by the program.

new phone is at s/w 2.1 (5F136)
f/w 02.11.07
I havent activated it yet but trying to use>
2.2.0 (3G): iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw and Pwnage -225-2
How do I get this phone to update 2.2 so I can jailbreak it with these tools?

You have to update in Itunes.
Then, jailbreak with Quickpwn or Pwnage.
And Pwnage only creates a custom FW, which you then have to install with Itunes.

If you have a copy of 2.2, then you can hit "Shift-Restore" and it will allow you to choose the 2.2 firmware file.

when I shift >click restore and it pulls up info, what and where am I looking for the 2.2 restore info and file? TY

but my new iPhone is 2.1 and my old was updated s/w 2.2.1 (stupid) I need to know how to find a 2.2 restore so I can jailbreak. Where do I find my restores? Hold shift and click restore but I dont know where to find them?
I dont know the file names or what i am looking for, please help.

If you wanna go to 2.2,follow the link&download iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw to your desktop.Also download quickpwn 22-1(not 225-2).You can find it on this site or on iClarified site.
On itunes hold down shift,choose your iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw which is placed on desktop&restore.Then use quickpwn....
