Need More Memory - no PWNAGE tool for windows
I've tried every known application, all of my fonts, ringtones, and apps have been moved via Cydia or BossTools, yet I still have problems with apps crashing, springboard resets, etc due to low memory allocations on the root drive. I've tried to do some homework and look for a custome .IPSW or 2.2 firmware, with greater that 600MB on the root drive, for a 1 gen, AT&T legit iphone so that I can restore and then use Quickpwn to re-jailbreak my machine.
If any of you fine gents or ladies could point me in the right direction or make any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.Last edited by ripped53; 01-24-2009 at 10:12 AM.

How much storage and ram do you currently have?
Can you run SBSettings and report on the:
/ partition
/var partition
& available memory?

I don't think that allocating more storage to / will affect your system memory. It's two completely different things. The storage partitions are on the 4/8/16 GB flash chip. The system memory is not part of the flash chip, but part of the ARM processor package.
It's likely that some app or widget that you're running has a memory leak, or you've got too many things loaded up on the phone (such as Winterboard).

ripped53, its the available memory number that you should be most concerned with. install the process widget for sbsettings so you can tell what all you have running in the background. this will only show you programs though, such as mobile mail or phone app. also like previously mentioned, winterboard, weather widgets, extensive theme-ing, stacks, and other similar programs will eat memory. you probably don't need to rejailbreak the phone, just cut back on the amount of items you have running.
it will be easier to troubleshoot your situation if you can provide a more extensive list of what you have running on the phone. 9mb of avail memory is probably the root of your problem. for comparison purposes, i have winterboard, quickgold, weather widget, sbsettings, installed. in addition to the phone app, i only keep irealsms running in the background. at first when i open sbsettings, my avail memory is about 58mb, after sbsettings rescans, it drops to about 35mb and holds there. hope this helps a little.

I have a very similar situation when staring SBSetting... like now it opens and says I have 50MB of Available memory then it dropped to 12MB..Processes running are Phone and Mail...as you had mentioned.
Now when I open FreeMemory there a list of things running...and it says I have 2.75MB of free Memory...I run the app and it increases to 20.32, but then drops to 15.75MB free.
As far as winterboard I have the following checked:
ForecastSlider
24Hr VistaBliss
PerfectStorm 2.0
WAD(widget)
How would I be able to tell if something has a memory leak?Last edited by ripped53; 01-24-2009 at 09:23 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

SBSettings drops after you open it because it has to refresh.
And yeah, changing the root partition size wont give you any more available memory. Anything that runs in the background will suck memory. Like the Clock widget or the Vista bliss. All HTML scripts or daemons will hog memory.

I went back and unchecked everything within winterboard except Perfect Storm 2.0 and I got the same memory result from both SBSetting and FreeMemory as before. The only other things I can think of running would be Reminder(Notifier) and LockCalendar. Which I was under the impression that both of those were less of a resource hog than intelliscreen, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Does generally installing a lot of apps slow down the iPhone or only if the apps are active in memory / mobile substrate all the time?
Is there any other way that something can remain in Memory undetected?
Is there any other way to Watch Memory / Processes that is better than the SBSettings "Processes" Viewer & Terminator? Are there things INVISIBLE to the Viewer and how to find out and tweak them?
(MS = Mobile Substrate)
Apps with keyword 'substrate' in Cydia Search:
iKeyEx - MS based keyboard
Mobile Substrate
PreferenceLoader
SBCustomIcon
SkrewCommon
VoIPover3G
20 Second Lock Screen
Currently my Mobile Substrate has the following items listed when attempting to remove: A lot of these were installed assuming that they would not CLOG memory. I havent gotten to evaluate all but I'd rather be LEAN than trigger happy on every new APP to try.
Can you please suggest which ones to keep and which ones to not?
Short keys:
?? - How can this help? Do I really need it? Should I keep it? Whats the benefit v/s one of the other similar apps?
NYU - Not Yet Used - Was installed but doesnt come in use as yet.
Y - Yes. I use it. YY - More. YYY - More More.. etc
S - Sometimes used
AED - Aesthetic Element Disabled - Were installed but now disabled to save memory - Is it worth having? If I like one theme can I / should I keep only one installed at a time? Uninstall all? Or are they never loaded into memory?
ODO - On Demand Only - Might be needed on demand only. Not needed in memory / startup all the time. Your thoughts/ comments?
