2nd Attempt - 2g 16GB iPhone Unlocked/Jailbroken 1.1.4 to 2.2

Hi All.

Apologies for re-posting this, but I did not get a definative answer and after having to replace my 3g iPhone (Dropped it cracked the screen ) I am a little more cautious about things now.

I have a 1st Gen 16gb iPhone currently unlocked and jailbroken running on 1.1.4(ZiPhone'd) I run Windows Vista (For my shame)

I have passed it on to the wife who wants to add apps from the App Store, so needs an upgrade.

She is on an O2 (UK) pay as you go sim.

How do I get it from 1.1.4 to 2.2 and retain the unlock and jailbroken state, I downloaded the Custom 2.2 and Quickpwn, but it would not let me do anything as I was on 1.1.4.

Not bothered by loosing apps or stuff.

Am I correct in thinking I:
  1. Do a complete restore (Hard Reset)
  2. Connect to iTunes and download and update to 2.2
  3. Use Quickpwn or Winpwn with a custom IPSW of 2.2 and run through that
  4. ???

Thanks again for any help.

Thanks for the info and link.

You say restore to iTunes...... do I update to 2.2 and then run Quickpwn as described in the link or just run Quickpwn from the current state?

I have tried previously 2.1 to do Quickpwn from current state but it failed due to it being 1.1.4.

Thanks again.

download the firmware file provided by iClarified, and Hold down the shift key, and press restore in iTunes to select the firmware. Dont press the upgrade button.

Yeah, just to clarify because I don't know if you'll get that from the previous two posts, you restore to the 2.2 file. Once that's done, open up Quickpwn and go from there...

my friend recently got an iPhone on unlocked and jailbroken 1.1.4. I personally own a jailbroken 2.2.1 iPod touch, and am having difficulties in locating how to go about updating the iPhone to 2.2.1
I know pwnage will do the job (mac man), but if I upgrade through iTunes to 2.2.1, will he lose his unlocked status, and need to unlock again, or will it keep the unlocked status, but just lose the jailbreak?
Sorry if these are noob questions, I know plenty about the iPod touch, but don't have too much knowledge about the iPhone.
Thanks for any help

^Yeah, he'll lose both the unlock and jailbreak... As long as he's not on a 3G, he'll be fine to unlock 2.2.1, but if he is, he should only go to 2.2 to preserve the baseband or it won't be unlockable.

You can use officially use any o2 sim on a 1st gen iphone. Upgrade to 2.2.1 and register it in itunes, then jailbreak it using Quickpwn

So does that mean no problems with upgarding to 2.2.1 (its a 1st gen iPhone, so not 3G), and then jailbreakn+unlocking with pwnage?
If so, do you know where I might be able to find a tutorial? All I manage to find is kinda outdated...
Thanks,

Thanks again

Edit2: YAY Got it working, basically just followed the method to the letter xD
