Ok I searched but didnt really feel comfortable with the information I found. I unlocked my phone using pwnage and i am running firmware 2.0. I havent modified or upgraded since. Needless to say most of the applications I have installed on my phone no longer work. I was wondering what I should do and where I can get the necessary files, information to make the upgrades as smooth as possible. I would most likely upgrade to 2.2. I am also not the best techie guy which is why I am starting this post. I am sorry if all these question seem to be newbie questions but I just want to make sure I dont brick my phone
I read a lot of posts referring to errors when upgrading to 2.1 and 2.2 so I dont want to mess anything up.

I'd suggest this:

iClarified - iPhone - How to Select an iPhone Unlock/Jailbreak Tutorial

There you can find a tutorial about each case! It depends on what OS you're using... iPhone type, FW, etc... Select your's and go through with it. You'll do better with 2.2 I'm sure!

Please remember to be in 10.5.6 MAC OS X and 8.0.2 iTunes. Otherwise if using Windows just check! Then just prepare everything and complete the process!

I've done it several times with MAC OS and until now got 0 Errors!
