Unlocking issues.
Hi All
I've just recived a new replacement 2g iPhone from apple after my previous version died.
I'm having trouble unlocking the phone though.
This is what I've done so far.
I have a 8gb 2g iPhone which should be locked onto the United Kingdom O2 network.
The phone was preinstalled with 2.1 firmware, I activated and synched the phone with Itunes using my o2 sim and Itunes and updated the firmware to 2.2.
I then used quickpwn 2.2 to unlock and install Cydia. Process completed sucessfully.
After reboot I attempted to switch the sim over to my preferred Orange UK sim but the Iphone is aking to reconnect to itunes as a different sim is present.
Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm overlooking something.

Did you install yellowsnOw?
Launch Cydia –> click on Manage –> click on Sources –> click Edit –> click Add –> enter the following Cydia repository URL found here –> Click on Return to Cydia.
Click on Search. Type in “yellowsn0w”. Install yellowsn0w (it should be version 0.9.1, it was updated fairly quickly). Let it finish installing, exit Cydia.
Reboot your iPhone with foreign SIM installed…10 seconds later after reboot you should get a signal. If you don’t, try taking the SIM tray out then reinserting again.
That’s it! Your iPhone is unlocked!

His post says "2G" iphone... durrr. Anyways... when you use Quickpwn it seems as though it only works for a single SIM card so if you switch SIM cards you need to completely restore and put the SIM card you actually plan to use in the phone before running Quickpwn. This is the advantage to Pwnage and a custom firmware... doesn't matter what SIM cards.. always works.

Thanks folks
After messing around with the phone for a while it appears as though the its actually unlocked but is stuck on the emergency call setting. Its definately showing the correct carrier and I can make and receive calls. I'll try quickpwn with the intended SIM in place.
Thanks

You may have to do a complete restore first before using Quickpwn again for it to work. Just put the phone into recovery mode but holding power + home until you see the iTunes logo and then iTunes will let you restore.

Thanks Poseidon, trying that now. It was returning the different sim inserted message when I tried with the foreign sim in.
Thanks
Ok, Tried that. Restored using Itunes to factory state. Put the foreign sim in and quickpwned again. Quickpwn is reporting success but on reboot after quickpwn the phone is advising different sim inserted please connect to itunes.
I'm lost now, I think I'll try a prebuilt custom firmware now.Last edited by Oddball; 01-02-2009 at 02:44 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
