"Custom" firmware 2.2 for 3G jailbreak question

As I don't have a mac I'll have to download a custom firmware.

I got a fw 2.1 jailbroken iPhone 3G from the US that is locked to AT&T.
obviously I'm awaiting the devteam for the yellowsn0w unlock.

My question is if I should download the custom firmwares I see on some sites, and which I should choose between the activated and non activated(??) versions.

Should I use for example:
"Pwned 2.2 firmware for iPhone 3G for use on networks other than your iphone was locked to. i.e. for US users who have the AT&T locked iphone 3g and want to use T-Mobile. (Sorry for the confusion before by saying for non AT&T users)"

OR

"Here's the pwned iphone 3g 2.2 firmware, 600MB root partition, default apple logos, no baseband update, and NOT "activated." This is for use on the official carriers that your iphone 3g was locked to. i.e. in the US if you have AT&T locked iphone 3g and want to use it on AT&T network. Or in another word, if you can activate your phone normally through itunes. "

bottom line: I'm kinda confused and basically just want to upgrade to 2.2 while keeping the old baseband that allows the unlock.

any tips / links or anything?

^^And you looking for something like the second option.

If you have Pwnage activate the phone you will have issues (using ATT), so you want to choose the "Not activated" version.

tnx, but I was looking for 2 different places (*cough* torrents from at Piratebay/Demonoid & Howard mobilephoneforum) to download mainly because I want Installer too (yes saw that link you sent sometime last week but it had no installer)


as they have an activated and non-activated versions I'm basically not sure what the difference is for me & in my situation (caribbean, us-simlocked-jailbroken-iphone).


@cpjr: I am in the Caribbean so we have no AT&T here, will it then matter about the activation? I'm worried about the (activation?) "issues" I might have that's basically why I made this thread..

Currently I'm using the 3G as a glorified ipod without my sim until the unlock is here.

Nevermind, after a couple hours research (didn't want to screw up anything ) I found it out.

used an activated custom f/w for tmobile & other carriers one from the ilikemyiphone site

worked like a charm, 2.2, cydia, installer & the old 2.11.07 BB.

Hey I am looking for the same firmware for tmobile is there any chance you can load this somewhere so I can download it. I am also with tmobile here in the states and cant seem to jailbreak my phone.
