Well... Im have no answer for you mate, I have jailbroken at least 30 odd times over the last year & never come across this problem, nor heard of it.

If i was you i would do it all over again. Sorry couldn't help you further.

    P.S

If your still on 1.1.4 why dont you update at the same time?

I ran into this problem a while back. When building your custom firmware with PwnageTool, be sure to uncheck the Cydia Installer (graphical iPhone front-end for APT). This fixed the Cydia crashing for me. Hope this helps

i just recently jailbroke 2 phones... an 2g and a 3g and had this same issue multiple times.
i did finally get them to work properly by un-checking the cydia installer thing previously mentioned.
maybe we could get this step added to the guide or something.

I have this same problem after upgrading to 2.2. I've redone it 3 times. I emailed the developer and this is his reply:

"When you installed Cydia with Pwnage, did you ask Cydia to install Cydia? If you use Expert mode there is a feature where you can manually select extra packages to install as part of the installation packages. If you install Cydia on this screen, bad things can happen. Specifically, this screen does not handle dependencies correctly, which means that the Cydia you install from there might not be "complete" when it gets to the phone. When I asked the author of PwnageTool about these types of issues he said that : according to the author it is only for use by a "true expert, who should already know what the dependencies are". I therefore recommend that all users (including me, as I know I don't know all the dependencies between everything... why would I, that's why we have tools) do not use that part of PwnageTool. -J"

I'm not sure what to do to fix this.......

after trying everything i found a fix! thanks to youtube guy danny7305!
Use the apps iFile or Discover from Cydia to browse to /var/lib/dpkg/updates/ and swipe the files then select delete, or in iFile select edit, check all the files, then tap the trash can at the bottom.
