Upgraded to 2.2 and now no service!

Hi there,

I too have updated to firmware 2.2 by using Pwnage Tool. However, now when I turn my iphone on I get reception for about 5 seconds and then it reverts to no service, so I can't call or txt. Wifi still works fine. I have done all manner of restores - downgrading to 2.1 and 2.0 with no luck. I am now stuck with a very expensive ipod touch! Please help meeeeeeee!

Did you select Activate on Pwnage when you normally active via iTunes? If you have a legit contract and are required to activate via iTunes, this option in Pwnage must be turned off.

Only for 3G iPhones. 1st gen iPhones can be hactivated with Pwnage even if you have a legit contract. I have done it already for 1.1.4, 2.0.2, and 2.1 on my 1st gen iPhone. I haven't done it for 2.2 yet, but I don't see why it should differ.

EDIT: done it for 2.2 and still works. 1st gen Phone can be hactivated by Pwnage bypassing the iTunes activation even for legit contracts on 2.2

it locked the phone, so i did a restore to 2.1 and then used QuickPwn 2.2 to jailbreak it. now it has the installers but i still get no service

it shows a weak signal and then it drops to no service. everything else works on the phone. i even have winterboard running.

what should i do?

From what I have read in these forums once you upgrade to 2.2 you can't go back, but I may be wrong, I had the same problem yesterday and also got responses saying to not check the activation box but that did not show up when I did the pwn, I'm going to try again tonight and see if that shows up.

I suggest going into the setting and reseting your network settings. (probably wont work) And to the person who said they have activated through pwnage, i can account that i have attempted to do that with 2.1, and got the problem the person is facing now where i had no service. So go back and uncheck ativate.

You might want to give this a try, I just finished mine and it works, yesterday I tried on a Mac which I'm basically not really good at, but it worked using Windows!

This is the case for me. I also have a 2G 8gig (wife's) that I updated to 2.2 with the latest Pwnage and iTunes. Left the activation checked for the 2G, and it worked like a charm. But didn't on my 3G 16gig, and I had to redo the whole process.

Right basically I have a iphone 3g using a TurboSim. I updated to 2.2 by mistake through iTunes. I now realise that the reason I now get no service is because the baseband has been updated. This has made the TurboSim solution not work anymore. This is the reason I get no service and same for anyone else who updated a 3g iphone to 2.2 and uses a TurboSim.

I have tried downgrading the firmware to 2.1 and 2.0 but I still have no service - this is because the baseband now will always stay updated to the new 2.2 version despite what firmware you have.

So now I am going to have to wait until a new TurboSim compatible with 3g 2.2 firmware (and updated baseband) or until someone comes up with a solution to downgrade the baseband. I have the exact same problem even someone told me to turn my phone off and on again still no service, I don't know but seems to me this pawng tool is a load of old cobblers as it ain't working for me.. Everything on my phone works and is upgraded to firmware 2.2 except there is no signal to make or receive calls or txt messages. I think the people at o2 hve this hacking downlaod firmware 2.2 down pat.. BLLLAAAHHHHHHH

So less of the derogatory comments retard is not apolitically correct name to use in this society that is supposed to be equal for all, I pity anyone with mental difficulties my father has alzheimers please come and spend a month with us maybe then you will appreciate the word retard if you experioence first had the day to day regime I have to go through here at home.. Yes you are correct to point the above out, but maybe noobs like me wouldn't be on a site like this if we were well versed in the matters of unlocking hardware and need not need the use of sites like this one to perform the upgrades through other peoples knowledge and hard efforts.. I don't think you should be so apologetic. Smirkis has been gratuitously aggressive and offensive, let's not reward this behavior. We are here to help each other out. Unfortunately 'retard' is commonly used in the US these days, this country replaces one type of 'racism' with another one on a daily basis.
