Apps stuck in hidden Categories
Like an idiot I upgraded to 2.2 on my iPhone 3G before reading all the warnings. Not even remembering to move all my apps out of the Categories' folders first!!!
Result? - All my apps are now hidden in the missing folders! iTunes quite happily will sync or remove them and add them back into the HIDDEN folders. If I download them again from the App Store, I get a warning to say they are already installed but I can still download them. They appear on the springboard until the next sync when they again disappear.
Tonight I have jailbroken (jailbreaked?) my iPhone again (quickpwn) with the hope of being able to use WinSCP to fix the Categories mess.
However, being a complete idiot I had Cydia and Installer in a Categories Folder. It appears as if they have been put back in the missing folders as I can't see them either.
Hence I can't install BSD or SSH to use WinSCP to resolve problem!!!
Help! anybody got aby ideas?

No, just all the apps from App Store and Cydia. I've kept nost of the default apps on the springboard.

If you have settings:
1. Go into settings, general, Restrictions.
2. Enable restrictions, and then disable them.

Sorted!!!
Whilst following 461am leads (Thanks by the way) I noticed the 'Reset' option in the 'Settings' menu. In there is an option to 'Reset Home Screen Layout'. Pressed that and voila! all my added apps are back. Including Cydia, Installer and Categories. Although I don't think I'll be using that one again!

To OP. I seem to be having the same problem too. I had a whole lot of apps in Categories. After the update.. they're all hidden. I tried doing what you did with the "reset" and it didn't help. I also tried enabling and disabling "restrictions". That didn't work either. DAMN!

Try this: go into the reset menu and click on 'reset all settings'

Hello fellow morons! I too upgraded to 2.2 with 'Categories" installed. I can't see Cydia, Installer or Settings.
Any good ideas?
Thanks from a moron,
Rusty

When you do an upgrade from one firmware to another it removes the jailbreak. In actuality all your apps are still there, but the file paths to see them all have to broken. You need to RESTORE, jailbreak, and then download all your apps again manually. Yes it's a pain but only takes an hour or so if you know what you're doing.

I made the same mistake
It had been so long since I last pwned my phone, that I too forgot that I had Cydia, Installer and Settings in a categories folder when I ran pwnage... so i had to do a restore...Good news it was painful enough that I won't do that again (but I love categories ... much better than 8 pages of apps....)

OK, so I am doing an iTunes restore to factory 2.2. Then I'll use Pwnage tool to jailbreak. Can I use my iPhone backup anytime during this to get all my settings? Will that bring back my botched paths?
Thanks.
