Someone PLEASE HELP!!!

Here is my problem,

Keep in mind that I am new to the process of jailbreaking etc as I bought it off my friend who already had it as such.

I have been trying to get winterboard to work but the screen comes up blank once I install it and launch it from springboard, just white with grey lines. I have been reading some forums and the general concensus is that I need to restore it to official firmware, then jailbreak it again. The phone is also unlocked on a different carrier than AT&T (this is the first gen phone). I believe the phone is using the jailbroken 2.0 or 2.1 firmware.

Here are my questions..

1) What the crap does repwn mean? Basically re-jailbreaking?

2)The phone is already unlocked, if I restore to factory, will it mess up my carrier status? Will I have to unlock it again? Will I even be bale to make a call??

Ultimately in the end all I want to do is get winterboard to work. If anyone has a easier way to fix the blank screen problem then let me know, but as of now from what I can see thats the only way.

I haven't even gotten that far. When I open winterboard, the screen is just blank with grey lines. I know it's supposed to come with default themes, but mine has nothing. When I download a theme, still nothing shows up. I have reinstalled, uninstalled and tried again over and over, still nothing.
