    Default itunes wont let me select custom firmware

    just used winpwn entered dfu mode connected to itunes but when i hold down **** key and hit restore it wont let me select custom firmware it just goes into download from itunes any help please

    if your on a mac you hold down the opt key/alt key

    or try running in safe mode, or run itunes as admin

    This worked for me:

    In iTunes: Preferences->General [uncheck] Check for updates automatically.

    Hope it works for you.

    on mac you hold down the alt key and then click restore
    a little window will open u so you can browse the firmware bundles you have

    pwnagetool doesn't recognise iTunes 10 as being newer than 8. Think I'll wait for an update

    Yes, he's sure. So am I. You get a message that the device is not eligible for the firmware version chosen.

    I'm going to downgrade itunes and see if that works.

    [edit] Interestingly that is no longer possible.

    are you using a firmware file for your phone not a different model? ie Using a 3GS firmware on a 3G will not work...? are you in DFU mode?

    No, downgrading itunes won't help you. You need shsh blogs stored with Cydia to downgrade. Your problem is either you did not point your hosts file to Cydia or you don't have the shsh blogs with Cydia.
