Shift+Restore on itunes 8 = nothing???

So I downloaded a 2.1 custom IPSW with Windows, and upgraded to iTunes 8.0.0.35 through the Apple Updater. Sync'd the iPhone, and did the usual shift-click. BUT instead of popping up asking which IPSW to use, it continues as if I had not held down shift! Restarts of phone and computer, as well as DFU mode don't make a difference! What should I do?

uninstall itunes...and download itunes again from apple site...see if that will work..it should work.

That worked... but while I was going back and forth upgrading/trying to get my custom firmware to install, every 3 or 4 times I shift-restored (I kept getting errors and was trying solutions to fix it) it would go back to not working. I ended up having to restart every time that happened... weird.

reinstall windows or osx? haha... i did that when vista won't pickup after i install so many usb hack apps.
