thanks for links to custom FW2.1 I'll do mine tomorrow now.

Whoever was having problems with itunes shift and restore not working, try and replace stock FW2.1 in application/data folder with custom FW, I'm not saying it will def work but it's got to be worth a try.

it's probably doing that cuz you downloaded update from iTunes? find that file and delete it then Shift+Restore should work. Let us know

ya man I'm trying the exact same thing. Itunes just wont look for the firmware file. It either starts extracting the original one, and if i remove it, then it just wants to download it again. Do you click shift restore normally or let go of the mouse button after you move it from the restore button?

ok let me get this straight, I'm on iTunes 8 2.0.2 2G JB AT&T
now I opened iTunes and can select the custom FW np, by doing that I'll be on 2.1 and keep everything apps and stuff?

is it just me or is the firmware by Grip not working? im talking about the one that's at&t friendly. whenever i hit shift+restore and select the custom firmware i end up getting error(6) then when it is in dfu and restore mode i get error (1600). please help. does anyone else have a different 2.1 custom firmware for 1st gen ATT iphone?
